屈原　漁父（全文）　1995年

いつの時代も歎きは同じ。すでに紀元前四世紀、屈原は「世を挙げて皆な濁る、我れ独り清む。衆人皆な酔う、我れ独り醒む」と世の乱れと己の孤立無援を歎いた。これに対して市井の老漁師は「水清まば纓（冠のひも）を濯い、水濁らば足を濯へばいい」と笑って二人は別れたという。『楚辞』の「漁父辞」全文を、屈原と漁父の対話の、深刻にして、ユーモラスでもある景色に焦点をあてて書いた。

Qu Yuan Poem, the Fisherman’s Song (Full Text), 1995

The lament is the same in all ages. Already in the fourth century BC, Qu Yuan lamented the chaos in the world and his own isolation and helplessness, saying, “The whole world is dirty, and I alone am clean. Everyone is drunk, and I alone am sober.” In response, an old fisherman from the neighborhood said, laughing, “When the water is clear, rinse the cords of your headdress; when the water is muddy, rinse your feet,” and then the two went their separate ways. I wrote the entire “Fisherman” episode from Chu Ci, focusing on the dialogue between Qu Yuan and the fisherman which is both serious and humorous.
