Sakakibara Shihō (nihonga painter; 1887–1971)</br>
Nihonga painter, born in Kyoto. A graduate from the Kyoto Municipal School of Painting, Shihō exhibited successfully at the Bunten exhibitions. In 1918, he joined Tsuchida Bakusen and Murakami Kagaku in founding the Kokuga Sosaku Kyokai art group. After its demise, Shihō stopped exhibiting his works and distanced himself from the mainstream art scenes, while continuing to work on his own. He was named a professor at the Kyoto Municipal School of Painting and Kyoto University of Arts and Crafts. Shihō received the Imperial Prize of the Japan Art Academy in 1962.
